Our congregation reaches out to others with the love of Christ through our giving and our service.

Rio Bravo Mexico PhotoWe support a number of United Methodist mission agencies throughout the year, with special offerings during Lent and Advent. Our church hosts a Whiz Kids after-school reading program, in conjunction with Mayflower Congregational Church, with students from Putnam Heights Elementary.

Several Crown Heights’ members have served on mission trips to Africa and Europe and a large delegation has built houses in Rio Bravo, Mexico.

We collect hundreds of cans of food for Skyline Urban Ministry in October, sponsor an Angel Tree at Christmas, and support, ‘Clothes for Kids’ before school starts at Skyline.

There are always ways to serve others through our ministries. We also work with other churches in the neighborhood to serve those near the Church.

Whiz Kids Reading Program
In 2003 Crown Heights United Methodist Church began participating in the Whiz Kids Reading Program. Whiz Kids is an outreach program designed to provide at-risk children with reading tutors. Crown Heights hosts this reading program on Thursday afternoons. Please contact the church if you are interested in volunteering. This is a great opportunity to make a big difference in a child's life. Crown Heights hosts a Holiday dinner for the Whiz Kids Program participants.

Mobile Meals
Since 1977, Crown Heights has participated in Mobile Meals, a cooperative effort among area churches to provide hot meals to local shut-ins and the elderly who are no longer able to cook for themselves. Crown Heights currently serves between 15 and 25 hot meals once a week. Volunteers are divided into three groups: those who cook, those who deliver the meals and those who shop for groceries. A team of two or more cooks meets in the church kitchen Mondays at 9 a.m. to prepare the food, and a team of two drivers arrives to help box and deliver the meals about 10am. The day's work is generally over by noon. Currently, there are four cooking teams which each work one Monday a month, and two driving teams which each work two Mondays a month. Grocery shoppers meet as needed, every few weeks. Contact the church office to volunteer.
