Dianne returns to her roots at Crown Heights as her maternal grandparents, Hal and Rene Whitten were founding members. She remembers the red velvet pew cushions, stained glass windows and singing in the children's choir, In her teens her family transferred to Church of the Servant. Dianne has followed her faith throughout her life. She attended Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, then transferred to Phillips Graduate Seminary in Enid, ordained a deacon in the Oklahoma Annual Conference in 1982 and completed her Master of Divinity degree, summa cum laude, in 1984.

Dianne's first appointment was serving as associate pastor for First Church in Yukon. She remained there for three years then moved to First United Methodist Church in Hinton, Oklahoma for four years. She was appointed to St. Paul's in Lawton, however after four years she was asked to serve on the cabinet as Clinton District Superintendent. Several years later she requested to be taken off the cabinet and moved to Norman where she pastored St. Stephen's United Methodist Church for eight years.
