Ways You Can Serve
Monthly Mission Projects: Our Church is committed to offering a monthly mission project for our congregations to participate in. They vary throughout the year. Some months we are asked to shop, bake, or bring something from home. Some months we do a mission together in worship. Some months we are asked to work at the church or a person’s home. This is a great way to serving our community and getting to know the people of our church better.
November 2024- Our church is collecting bags of food for families in need of a Thanksgiving meal. Our grocery list is all the non-perishable food items needed to feed a family of 6, not including the meat. Please shop the list below and deliver to the church. Bags will be given to Skyline Urban Ministry in time for Thanksgiving.

2 boxes of Macaroni and Cheese (no adding milk)
1 box pancake/baking mix, 40 oz (for biscuits)

TOTAL cost per bag $23
You may donate the cost of a bag ($23), and we will do your shopping (turn in money by November 17), or bring bags with items to the church by Sunday, November 24.
October 2024- Halloween: Our church is serving Baked Potatoes to the UCO Wesley Foundation. They provide a free lunch to about 60 students every Thursday.AND Crown Heights neighborhood is a hopping place on Halloween. With Tabletop Tavern, we will hand out candy. Come, TRICK OR TREAT us, entering through the Western portico.
September 2024- NSO’s Palo Duro is a OKC apartment building for adults with mental heath disabilities. Can you help cook for or deliver a meal to the residents? We are signed up to provide lunch on Tuesday Sept 17. Menu- Baked Potato Bar, fresh fruit, yummy dessert.
August 2024- Join us in worship on August 25, we will sign cards for our church teachers and the teachers at Putnam Heights Academy as they begin a new school year.
JULY 2024- Skyline Urban Ministry has an increased need of donated food to give out. They say the most helpful donated items are cereal, canned meats, and macaroni & cheese. Let’s stock their shelves! Bring these items to church throughout the month of July.
JUNE 2024- VBS is June 24-27 (Monday- Thursday), and we need all hands on deck. Volunteers are needed to help with dinner, and we need lots of help keeping track of kids. Bakers, we need 30 dozen cookies (350). Shoppers, please consider helping us with VBS crafts, science, and cooking supplies.
APRIL 2024- Saturday April 6 (9:30am-2pm), volunteers needed to work with OU’s Big Event workers. Help host or supervise a project. Young Adults, join on Sunday April 7, stay after church for pizza and to finish any of the work projects from the day before. Dress ready to work!
FEBRUARY/ MARCH 2024- Skyline Prom Room- Skyline helps teens who would otherwise not be able to afford a dress for their school’s dances shop for formal wear. Our church worked the Prom Room at Skyline Urban Ministry on Feb 25, March 16, and March 21.
DECEMBER 14, 2023- Our church provided Christmas lunch for NSO’s Palo Duro, all the Whiz Kids families, and Mobile Meals. 250 meals!
NOVEMBER 2023- Together we donated 95 Thanksgiving bags to Skyline Urban Ministry and our own Whiz Kids. That’s about $2000 of food- amazing! The youth helped shop, the Whiz Kids helped put bags together, and our church volunteers finished out the project.
Our church adopted two Christmas wish-lists for NSO Palo Duro residents.
OCTOBER 2023- Our members handmade 27 scarves for YWCA domestic abuse clients.
SEPTEMBER 2023- Crown Heights UMC is playing a lead role in organizing SKYLINE URBAN MINISTRY’s Prom Room. This fall we are collecting fairly recent, in good condition formal dresses and suits. Ask around!
SUMMER 2023- We are raised money for medical debt relief. Every penny went to purchase someone’s unpaid debt. We raised $3831.38 which purchased almost $700K in medical debt.
MAY 2023- Period Poverty is the inability to afford or have access to period supplies. Globally, this is a significant problem, but it affects many women in our community as well. This month we are collecting tampons and sanitary pads to be distributed through schools, Skyline Urban Ministry, and Pivot.
APRIL 2023- Saturday April 1 is an all-church workday, we host OU’s Big Event from 9:30am-2pm.
March 2023- On Thursday March 30, we will provide pizza for the Wesley. We would like to have 6 dozen homemade brownies as dessert. Can you help provide some brownies?
FEBRUARY 2023- On Monday February 6, we need a crew to meet at 5:30pm and cook the meal (Chinese food) and then drive it to OCU at 6:45pm. The church will shop for the food, we just need people to help prepare/ transport.
JANUARY 2023- CHUMC provides approximately 14 meals every Monday to homebound seniors in our community through Meals on Wheels. Can you help us cook in January? Jan 16- Jennifer Sahmaunt is fixing tetrazzini. Can you provide 2 bags of Caesar salad and/or a dessert? Jan 23- We will serve sliced ham. Can you provide a potato casserole and/ or a dessert?
DECEMBER 2022– December 15, we have committed to bringing lunch to NSO’s Palo Duro’s residents AND dinner for the Whiz Kids’ program. We cooked 150 meals.

OCTOBER 2022- On Saturday Oct 22, UCO students came and worked on the church grounds. We had volunteers to host and work with the student from 9:30am- 2pm.
SEPTEMBER 2022- For recovery month, we supported a sober living house. We shopped for toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, all hygiene items. On Sunday, September 25, 2022, we celebrated recovery with cake after worship and raised $300 to scholarship for someone at rehab.
AUGUST 2022- We collected school supplies to hand out to our kids/ teachers, our Whiz Kids, and Putnam Heights Academy. We collected paper, folders, office supplies, or pencils.
JULY 2022- We collected school supplies to hand out in August– paper, folders, office supplies, or pencils.
JUNE 2022- We were assigned our third/ fourth apartments for a family of 9 (3 generations). We moved items from the church to the apartment on Saturday, June 18. The 2 apartments looked great.
Summer Recharge was a school program for Afghan students and new English learners to practice their language skills. Through the month of June, we sent volunteers to read with the kids from 9-10am on Wednesdays (June 8, 15, 22, and 29).
MAY 2022- On Sunday May 1 as we celebrated our graduates, we thanked the teachers of our church. We signed cards to each teacher and gave a $25 gift card to Walmart to help with classroom supplies.
APRIL 2022- Saturday April 2 was an all-church workday, we hosted and led teams for OU’s Big Event from 9:30am-2pm.
MARCH 2022– We volunteered with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to help sort and package food. We sent 25 people on Thursday, March 3rd from 6:30-8:30pm.
CHUMC Care Project- Afghan Refugees- Worked through the Spero Project and Catholic Charities, Crown Heights UMC committed to furnish and supply 3 homes for arriving Afghans. We wanted to be God’s welcome and love in Oklahoma for these displaced people, relying on the kindness of strangers to make Oklahoma home.
NOVEMBER 2021 Care Project- Raised money for:
- Household items not donated
- Mattresses, pillows, sheets (must be new)
- Gift cards to Walmart, Target, etc. for groceries
- Money to help with rent after the 90 days
OCTOBER 2021 Care Project- We are collected items needed to furnish home. Members donated new or gently used items on this list:
- Furniture (sofa, loveseat, chair, small dining room table and chairs, bed frames and box springs, end tables- new or good used condition)
- Other household items (lamps, linens, storage pieces/ bins, microwave, kitchen items- new or good used condition)
- Toiletries and personal items (men, women, children)
- Cleaning supplies
- Non-perishable food
SEPTEMBER 2021- Come, bid on a delicious meal, delivered to your door! The top 3 bidders and 1 raffle winner will all have meals delivered Sept 26 at 5:30pm. The youth are the cooks and the money goes to help the refugee families at our church.
AUGUST 2021- We gave cards and a $5 Sonic gift cards to our Postal Carriers. The church is provided the card, members included the gift card, and left it out for their Postal Carrier. Given by August 14.
JULY 2021- We asked for casseroles for the church freezer to be used for Mobile Meals. To help our devoted cooks, people provided the main course of the meal so cooks only had to worry about the sides.
JUNE 2021- Members were invited to participate in the Church World Service Ration Challenge. Three of us committed to eating only the rations provided to refugees in a camp. It was a fundraiser and an exercise in compassion. On June 13 in worship, we heard stories from our refugee families.
APRIL 2021- We had church members supervise and host a fabulous team from OU’s Big Event Workday on Saturday April 10.
MARCH 2021- Putnam Heights Academy is an alternative school near the church. We collected 150 $10 gift cards to Sonic, one for each student as the school year comes to an end.
FEBRUARY 2021- COVID has hit our hospitals, clinics, and skilled nursing facilities very hard. We are grateful for all the people on the front lines, especially the doctors, nurses, and staff from our church. We sent trays of homemade cookies with our medial professional members to their places of work.
JANUARY 2021– Our church’s mission for this month is to help stock the freezer for Night Shelter, offering temporary housing for our houseless population. Members donated frozen meals (store bought or homemade) through our church.
DECEMBER 2020– Through Neighborhood Service Organization, we adopted 2 clients for Christmas. Thanks to our members for buying towels, clothes, fluffy pillows, and cowboy boots to sweeten Christmas for our 2 men!
NOVEMBER 2020– Thanksgiving Bags– Throughout the month of November, we collected grocery bags for Skyline Urban Ministries. We donated 70 bags to Skyline and kept 30 for our church pantry.
OCTOBER 2020– A fundraiser for our church’s missions- we mailed out Halloween treats to children or adults. People gave the church office names and addresses for anyone they wanted to send a Halloween card and candy, we took care of the rest! Cost was $10 per name.
SEPTEMBER 2020– Throughout this month, our church committed to registering people to vote. We sent registration forms and absentee ballot forms to 5 colleges and set up 3 booths in church parking lots.
AUGUST 2020– Church World Service (CWS) is a ministry supported by the United Methodist Church, bringing aid to those affected by disasters, both natural or manmade. This year as hurricane season approaches, they are low on Hurricane Kits. We assembled 5 some kits and mailed them CWS’s distribution centers.
JULY 2020– Skyline Urban Ministry— Skyline is still providing groceries for the community. The demand is big right now. If you are shopping or cleaning out your pantry, please consider contributing any non-perishable food items. They are specifically asking for rice, instant oatmeal, canned meat, and peanut butter.
JUNE 2020– Dress for Success Oklahoma City empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Their building was burned and all inventory lost on May 30, 2020. We helped restock their closets. Women, thank you for all your second-hand professional clothes.
Mobile Meals: For over 25 years, our church has participated in Mobile Meals, a national program bringing hot, nutritious meals to older, homebound adults. Each Monday morning our church volunteers cook a delicious meal and deliver those meals to about 15 people. This is an important ministry and service. It is a safety net for a vulnerable group in our society, allowing them to maintain their independence while providing essential care. We can always use help with cooking, driving or helping deliver the meals. Contact Susan in the church office, 524-8428.
